Dear reader,
My debut novel Ace of Spades is out in a matter of days and I can’t wait for you to read it. You can expect rich kids behaving badly, covered-up murders and lots of suspense and intrigue! Ace of Spades tells the story of Devon and Chiamaka – the only Black students at Niveus Private Academy – as they navigate their way through their final year of high school, all while an anonymous bully threatens to spill their secrets to the entire school.
United by Pop have this exclusive extract from the book which showcases the beginning of the downfall of queen bee Chiamaka Adebayo. I’ve always found the downfall of the mean girl to be an interesting trope and I wanted to explore this in Ace of Spades. This extract also deals with the subtle criminalisation of Black teenagers, how we are almost never given the same benefit of the doubt that our white counterparts are afforded.
Can’t wait to dive straight into Ace of Spades? Luckily, we have an exclusive extract for you to read right here and now:
