As a massive Harry Potter fan, I got quite excited when I saw that 4 Privet drive was up for sale, and then I saw the price. Used in the ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’ film, the house can be yours for…wait for it – £475,000 (which is around $620,000 depending on the exchange rate obvs). Unless I win the lottery or receive a very generous donation, the chances of me being able to buy this house are pretty slim. Out of all the famous movie houses, this would be the one I would want to buy, wouldn’t you?
The house is actually located in a place called Bracknell, which is on the outskirts of London – not in Surrey as what the film portrays. Oh yeah and it isn’t even number 4 either, it’s number 12 (would still buy it though!). There’s even an actual cupboard under the stairs just like in the film. Although, with three bedrooms to choose from you won’t need to sleep there. If you can afford half a million quid I’d very much doubt you’d want to sleep there, unless you really want to relive the Potter experience to its full effect.
The people who are selling this house originally bought it back in 2010 for £290,000. I know that the cost of things are all relative, but it looks like they’ll make quite a profit when they sell it. Not that I’ve looked into it much (yeah right), I’ve found the estate agent that’s listing the actual house. So if you want to feel like a prospective buyer take a look at their website.

The Home Alone House
Located in Winnetka Illinois, you’re going to want to invest in a proper burglar alarm system (rather than the one Macaulay Culkin’s DIY version). Although I’m pretty sure there’ll be one already installed in this huge mansion. For $2.4 million (around £184 million) I should bloody hope it would include one!
The Twilight: New Moon House
Remember the Twilight saga? The house from the film ‘New Moon’ is up for sale but without a list price. If you’re happy enough to have loads of vampire wannabe’s trying to look into your house to catch a glimpse of Edward Cullen’s bedroom, best of luck to you! Apparently, the website hosting the sale of this house had 180,000 hits in the first week. Whether they were actual prospective buyers I’m not sure. Because of that, anyone who was interested in buying the property had to pass a screening test – to suss whether they were legitimate buyers and not just time wasting nosey Twilight tweens.
The Amityville Horror House
If you’ve read some of my other posts you’ll know that I love horror films, but whether I’d live in a horror house is another matter. This would probably be my last choice of famous movie houses to buy. This five bedroom house is located in Long Island and has a really spooky past. In 1974 a notorious murder happened here which inspired the 1979 film. It was then remade in 2005. The house has also featured in the plot for ‘The Conjuring 2’. For $850,000 (over £600,000) it can be yours if you’re rich and brave enough.
The Notebook House
If you’d love to live in the home that Noah built for Allie, then this five bedroom house can be bought for $582,000. Located in Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina – it looks pretty amazing.
James Bond’s Diamonds Are Forever Mansion
Put on the market back in July for £6 million, the luxury mansion was made famous by 1971 Bond film ‘Diamonds Are Forever’. I’m not sure whether this is still for sale but this looks like the ultimate bachelor pad! It still looks pretty modern to me too, and even though I’m not a Bond fan or a guy for that matter, I wouldn’t mind having this as one of my famous movie houses.
Cheaper By The Dozen House
If you’ve seen the 2003 remake of ‘Cheaper By The Dozen’ featuring Steve Martin, you’ll definitely remember this house. This is where the Baker family lived with their massive family of 12 kids. The house has 11 bedrooms in total. Although the film was based in Illinois, this house is actually located in L.A’s Hancock Park. I even found the website that is listing the property, so if you want to have a look for more photos check out the estate agents page. You’ll need to be quick, though, because it looks like someone’s put an offer down.
