Which celebrities give the most to mental health charities?
We all love celebrities for different reasons, whether it’s their talents in their fields, their good looks, their fashion senses, or the dramatic headlines they make. But what about the good they do for the world?
Some celebrities more than others make it a point to give back, and it’s important as fans to celebrate the ones that do in order to encourage them to continue doing it and for others to follow suit. Knowing that the part of the money you shell out for a concert ticket that the artist gets to keep may go toward that artist’s charitable initiatives can make you feel good about your purchase. The same goes for buying from brands that you know donate to good causes; your choice to support them allows them to support their charities.
Bearing that in mind, MentalHelp.net dug in deep to find out which celebrities donated the most time and money to mental health-related charities.
The Trevor Project describes itself as “the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) young people ages 13-24.” It has two major political supporters in Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, as well as countless other familiar names like Ellen Degeneres, Daniel Radcliffe, Zac Efron, Lady Gaga, and more.
ChildLine is U.K-based charity that offers free advice to people under the age of 19. Callers can discuss anything from relationships to stress to abuse, at absolutely no cost. It’s supported by major music acts such as Queen, Iggy Pop, ZZ top, Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue, actors like Daniel Craig, and many more.
Other mental health-related charities, such as To Write Love on Her Arms, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the Damon and Stella Foundation, Samaritans, and the Kristin Brooks Hope Center get massive help from celebrity supporters like Boys Like Girls, Good Charlotte, Joaquin Phoenix, and many others.
The three celebrities that support the most mental health charities are the Madden brothers, Joel and Benji, as well as Miley Cyrus.
