Manchester By The Sea is directed by Kenneth Lonergan (well known for his films Margaret and You Can Count On Me) and stars Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams. The film tells the story of Lee, who after the death of his brother is made to return to his Hometown and become guardian of his nephew (played by Lucas Hedges).
Returning to his hometown brings a lot of painful memories and broken relationships to the surface for Lee with one of them being his estranged ex-wife (played by Michelle Williams). Lee is completely unaware of his surroundings and cannot communicate with these people who have suddenly reappeared in his life. The once stubborn selfish man is now thrust into a world full of responsibility with the care of his nephew and his emotionally distraught estranged ex-wife.
Casey Affleck most well known for his work with brother Ben (Gone Baby, Gone) and Michelle Williams (My Week With Marilyn Monroe, Brokeback Mountain) give incredible performances throughout the trailer, with the characters having depth and interesting qualities about them. With a gritty vibe and realistic performances, Manchester By The Sea sucks in viewers just from the 2-minute long trailer.
With awards talk for the film, Affleck, Williams and newcomer Lucas Hedges. Manchester By The Sea looks set to be a huge contender this coming awards season and also a box office hit when it opens in the UK on January 13th 2017.
