Well, I definitely must have been in ‘La La Land’ the last couple of months. I hadn’t even heard of the film until very recently. Turns out, it’s been talked about for months and has a pretty star studded cast. Although the film itself won’t be out for another two months (in the UK anyway), Lionsgate have just dropped a brand new trailer for it.
What’s it about?
Written and directed by Damien Chazelle, ‘La La Land’ tells the story of Mia (Emma Stone) who’s an aspiring actress, and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician. Both are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Unlike ‘Rules Don’t Apply‘, this film is set in modern-day Los Angeles. A musical film which is all about everyday life exploring the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams.
Starring alongside Stone and Gosling are Academy Award-winner J.K. Simmons playing a character called “Boss,” as well as Jessica Rothe, Sonoya Mizuno and Callie Hernandez playing Stone’s roommate.
Rumoured to be one of this year’s Oscars frontrunners, it looks as though ‘La La Land’ is going to be one of those films you’ll love if you’re into musicals.
If you’ve ever seen ‘Crazy Stupid Love’ (one of my fave films by the way), or ‘Gangster Squad’ – you will know how well both Stone and Gosling work together. ‘La La Land’ looks to be no exception. In fact, it looks as though the pair are closer than ever and have an incredible working relationship.
Not only have we got the official trailer for the film, we now know what the official soundtrack is. The song is entitled ‘City Of The Stars’.
‘La La Land’ opens in UK cinemas on January 13th, but for those in the US, you can see it from December 6th.
