The sequel to the unforgettable ‘Finding Nemo’ has smashed the UK box office this weekend. Since its release over the weekend, the film has stormed to the top of the UK box office chart, taking in a whopping £8 million and making it the most successful animated film of the year for its opening weekend. This success also makes ‘Finding Dory’ the 2nd biggest Disney or Pixar animated opening of all time (behind Toy Story 3) and the 4th biggest animated 3-day opening weekend ever.

Across the pond, the film is doing incredible as well, as it’s now the highest grossing animated and 8th highest grossing movie of all time, taking in $469M since its release in June. ‘Finding Dory has already reached an incredible $831M at the global box office after only a few weeks on release.

The return of Dory has been praised by critics, crushing any rumours that the sequel perhaps wouldn’t be as good as the first. The film involves Dory, who’s living happily in the reef with Marlin and Nemo. When Dory suddenly remembers that she has a family out there who may be looking for her, the trio takes off on a life-changing adventure across the ocean to California’s prestigious Marine Life Institute, a rehabilitation center and aquarium.

In an effort to find her mom and dad, Dory enlists the help of three of the MLI’s most intriguing residents: Hank, a cantankerous octopus who frequently gives employees the slip; Bailey, a beluga whale who is convinced his biological sonar skills are on the fritz; and Destiny, a nearsighted whale shark. Deftly navigating the complex inner workings of the MLI, Dory and her friends discover the magic within their flaws, friendships and family.

Finding Dory is now out in cinemas. For a limited time only, Finding Nemo is under £5 on Amazon, you can buy the DVD here.
