‘American Idol’ was one of the first reality singing competitions to grace our television screens way back in 2002. The show went on to create superstars in the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood and Adam Lambert.
Sadly, the show was cancelled by Fox in 2016 after multiple changes in the layout of the show and the judging panel.
However, don’t be too sad, as it was recently announced that ABC are planning a revival of ‘Idol’ as a rival against NBC’s smash hit ‘The Voice’. With all this exciting news comes the rumours and rumbles of future judges and presenters.
Well, let me break down to you the rumours and who I believe should be on the judging panel.
Louis Tomlinson
Tomlinson was part of one of the biggest boy bands in history, but where did they start? On ‘ Factor’ of course!
Louis Tomlinson and the rest of the One Direction boys are experts in all the stages of a reality singing competition. This already makes Louis a prime choice for a spot on the judging panel. However, there’s more. Louis this past year made a surprise stint as a judge on ‘America’s Got Talent’, joining mentor and boss Simon Cowell on the panel.
With talks of Tomlinson joining the UK version of ‘X Factor’, could Tomlinson jump ship and sail across the Atlantic to join ‘American Idol’? I think it’s a good choice for both parties.
Kelly Clarkson
In a similar sense as Louis Tomlinson, Clarkson has gone through the reality singing competition routine… on ‘Idol’! Clarkson was the first winner of ‘American Idol’ back in its first season in 2002.
Clarkson has returned to Idol multiple times as a musical guest and as a guest judge. However, she’s never committed to a full season of judging. Could this new season bring Clarkson on board as a judge? I believe so!
Paula Abdul
Could the the original female judge of ‘Idol’ be making a surprise return? Pop icon Abdul is best known for her appearances as a judge on shows such as ‘American Idol’ and the U.S. version of ‘X Factor’. Her expertise in dancing, singing and knowing just how the competition goes makes Abdul a top contender to join the ‘American Idol’ judging panel in 2018.
Simon Cowell
Well, he is the one you think of immediately when you think reality singing competition.
Simon Cowell could be making a huge comeback to ‘American Idol’ in the new year. However, with commitments to ‘America’s Got Talent’ and the U.K.’s ‘X-Factor’, is a return to the platform that made him famous able to happen? I sure hope so!
Ryan Seacrest
It’s been announced that Seacrest is in early negotiations to return as host for ‘Idol’.
However, commitments to his recently announced spot on ‘Live With Kelly’ have thrown the idea of Seacrest returning into turmoil. A schedule that includes the aforementioned talk show and also a daily radio show makes hosting a live television show pretty… impossible.
However, Seacrest has stated that he has total loyalty and love for the show. Could a return happen?
