9 unnecessary female character deaths you’re still not over
It’s no surprise that television shows tend to kill off characters for shock value. First of all, rude. Second of all, the writers clearly don’t care about our feelings. I’ve noticed that over the couple of years most deaths have been female characters. What’s even worse? They were completely unnecessary.
I’m not sure whether to be offended or confused at why they were killed off? It’s just… too much.
1. LEXA (THE 100)
There’s a reason why Lexa is the first one on this list. The fans retaliated and because of this, the season dipped in ratings. Lexa was the most beloved character on ‘The 100’. The reason why I hated Lexa’s death was the way it happened. She didn’t get a heroic death, she got an accidental gunshot to the stomach. Right after her and Clarke finally had sex. In one episode, minutes apart from each other. Done.
2. CHARLIE (SUPERNATURAL)
One of my absolute favourite female characters on the show (god knows they don’t last long on this show) bit the dust. Yes, I understand it was to further Dean’s descent into darkness but it still wasn’t necessary. She was full of life and her personality was amazing. She died protecting our boys but that pain is still there. R.I.P. Charlie.
3. DAVINA (THE ORIGINALS)
The badass witch was tragically killed off by a cursed Kol (why is it always men?) for revenge. Come on, there’s too many vampires not enough witches so what happens? They kill the main witch. One of the only interesting characters gone. I’m a little sick of this happening especially when it’s all my favourite shows.
4. CAMILLE (THE ORIGINALS)
Oh look, another female character killed off. One episode apart, that’s just brutal. I loved Camille as a human and then typically, she became a vampire. Always happens on these shows. It’s really frustrating when you build a character up for a good storyline and then kill her off suddenly for again, shock value. Lame.
5. LAUREL (ARROW)
Dude, I am still fuming over this death. Laurel had come so far since season 1. I feel like her death in late season 4 was for the ratings. What was the point? The strange thing is, actress Katie Cassidy is still signed on as a series regular across the three DC shows. Hmm? Is someone at the writers table having regrets?
6. & 7. NORA AND MARY-LOUISE (VAMPIRE DIARIES)
Let’s be real right now, ‘Vampire Diaries’ hasn’t been very interesting since Elena left at the end of season 6. However, finally, Nora and Mary-Louise were introduced as Heretics and were lovers. These characters brought a breath of fresh air to the already stale show. So what did the writers do? Oh, that’s right, killed them off. I just don’t know how much more I can take. But knowing ‘Vampire Diaries’, they’ll probably get resurrected (like every other character).
8. ABBIE MILLS (SLEEPY HOLLOW)
WHY? No words. Yes, she died a hero. No, I do not approve. A very bold move to kill off the main female character of a TV show. As we await the dreaded fourth season, will this decision revive or kill ‘Sleepy Hollow’?
9. KATE BECKETT? (CASTLE)
Yes, Castle did end last season however we all knew if the show had been renewed for a ninth season, Beckett would have died. Her contract had not been renewed. This could have potentially destroyed everything the last eight seasons have built. Another stupid decision.
Do you all agree that these kickass female characters deserved to be killed off? I sure don’t and I’m hoping next time around, the writers will think twice before they do something just for the ratings.
