One thing that makes a television show great is the music. The episodes become so much more meaningful with a great soundtrack. The amount of times I get emotional over certain songs is ridiculous. I blame all the TV I watch. Yeah, I’m looking at you ‘Grey’s Anatomy’.
I’ve compiled some of the songs that certain shows have changed for me. I’m sure you can all agree.
1. ‘CHASING CARS’ – SNOW PATROL
Y’all know this song hurts. As soon as it starts to play, I get all emotional. Thanks Shonda. Not only was this song used in Denny’s death scene in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, but also after Derek’s death. Excuse me, this offends me. I wasn’t ready. I can’t help but cry now.
2. ‘CARRY ON MY WAYWARD SON’ – KANSAS
My fave. Instead of crying, I get all excited because that usually means it’s season finale time for ‘Supernatural’. If you’re a fan of the show, you know what I’m talking about. Although, the acoustic version had me tearing up. Too many emotions. Imagine me when the series finale ends, oh my god. I’ll need all the tissue boxes.
3. ‘NEVER LET ME GO’ – FLORENCE & THE MACHINE
Two shows ruined this song for me – in a good way. ‘Vampire Diaries’ and ‘One Tree Hill’. Both emotional, epic scenes. Like, can I just have a moment to take everything in? Apparently not. That moment when Damon and Elena share their first kiss. Or when Hayley is finally reunited with Nathan. I’M NOT CRYING, YOU’RE CRYING.
4. ‘DON’T STOP BELIEVING’ – JOURNEY
Glee. The iconic scene in the auditorium. The song that pretty much changed my life. Done. I’ll never hear it the same ever again. Y’all understand my pain.
5. ‘I’LL BE THERE FOR YOU’ – THE REMBRANDTS
The classic ‘F.R.I.E.N.D.S.’ theme song is so great. If you don’t clap your hands at the part, are you really even a fan? I always jam to this in the car to be honest.
6. ‘HOW TO SAVE A LIFE’ – THE FRAY
Oh look, another song ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ ruined me for. Damn you Shonda. I blame you.
7. ‘SKINNY LOVE’ – BIRDY
I can’t remember all the shows this song has been in, but I vividly remember ‘Vampire Diaries’. Ah, another show with such a great soundtrack. Also, this song was sung at an audition on The X-Factor Australia which still gives me chills.
8. ‘BREATHE’ – ANNA NALICK
I swear to god, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ needs to stop ruining songs for me. ‘Breathe’ played twice in the show, with one being sung in the musical episode. It’s one of my all-time favourite songs, so it had to make it onto my list. Just listen to it, it’s a great song.
It’s pretty safe to say that each of these songs has a different effect on me. Life was so simple before all this. Which one is your favourite?
