10 binge worthy shows to watch on Netflix UK this summer
Summer is finally here, which we’d like to think means loads of sun, catching up with old friends and having some epic nights out. But in reality? It’s probably raining for most of summer in the UK and those ‘epic nights out’ are actually pretty tragic. Especially when you look back at your Snapchat story from the night before. But fear not, there is always Netflix and forget all your responsibilities.
We can agree that the Netflix UK is somewhat… limited, compared to the US version. (This is mostly an indirect about the fact that they have access to the ENTIRE series of ‘Friends’ and we don’t!) But we’ve done some serious investigative journalism and spent hours deciding the 10 best shows for you to watch on the UK Netflix this summer.
‘Brooklyn Nine Nine’
This is a classic workplace sitcom from the people who helped make ‘The Office’ and ‘Parks and Recreation’. Based in a Brooklyn precinct – these detectives do more than just fight crime on the streets of New York. This is perfect if you want something lighthearted and hilarious to watch. The cast is also wonderful.
‘Full House’
Millennials, who wants to revisit their childhood? Because we certainly did when we re-watched all eight series of ‘Full House’ in less than a month. We rekindled our first childhood crush, John Stamos 😍 – he is gorgeous isn’t he? And we remembered how much we would’ve loved to have been a part of the Tanner family. It’s also interesting to watch this as an “adult”, because there are A LOT of valuable lessons we’ve learnt from it.
‘Fuller House’
If the original version of ‘Full House’ left you with all sorts of nostalgia, and questions like does Stephanie still say “how rude”? – then ‘Fuller House’ is the perfect show for you. With the entire cast reprising their roles (minus the Olsen twins’ character Michelle), it’s the most perfect spin off show we’ve ever seen. (And yes, John Stamos is still attractive 😍 !)
‘Rita’
It’s time to brush up on your Danish with ‘Rita’ – a comedy drama centred around the life of a badass teacher and her inability to adult correctly. (Essentially she’s us, except she’s a teacher.)
‘Orange Is The New Black’
You’ve probably seen loads of people go on about this, and you should definitely believe the hype. 💥 It’s all about the lives of women in Litchfield prison, focusing on the problematic faves that are Piper and Alex. This show has got it all from amazing stories and hilarious characters to an infinite amount of OTPs.
‘Jane The Virgin’
Did you think it was impossible for a virgin to have a baby? Well, you’re incorrect. Jane was accidentally artificially inseminated and the rest is history. Jane is a sensible twenty something with big dreams and is involved in a pretty intense love triangle. We are hooked, and soon you will be too!
‘Luther’
There are few things we enjoy more than seeing Idris Elba in any film or TV show, and ‘Luther’ is no exception. The crime drama is all about DCI John Luther – a murder detective with a quick, intelligent mind and very little common sense. He is a hot mess, and we can’t get enough of him. 😍
‘Master Of None’
This hilarious comedy drama follows the life of Dev, a 30 year old actor living in New York City. The show features Dev’s personal and professional life – it’s equal parts hilarious and heartwarming. And as for Aziz Ansari? He is the real MVP.
‘Gossip Girl’
This. Is. A. Classic. ‘Gossip Girl’ follows the lives of privileged and wealthy teens attending a private school in New York City. They are controlled by the infamous Gossip Girl – who dishes up all of the juiciest gossip from the Upper East Side and serves it up for all to see on her anonymous blog.
‘Absolutely Fabulous’
Edina and Patsy are two of the most troubled women to ever grace the sitcom circuit. They are career ladies, who rely on one another in the midst of their mid life crises. Sweeties! Darlings!
