Oscars 2017 predictions: Who are the front runners to win big this year?
The 2017 Oscars are coming up very shortly and already there is talk on who are the front runners to win big at this year’s event. Here are my predictions for the films I believe are going to win big at this year’s Oscars.
La La Land
‘La La Land’ is a musical romance that stars Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling in arguably their best roles to date. The film itself follows a talented musician (Gosling) and an aspiring actress (Stone) who meet and fall in love in the city of Angels, Los Angeles, US. ‘La La Land’ had its worldwide premiere at the Venice Film Festival on August 31st and ever since has been earning incredible critical applaud for the director Damien Chazelle’s directing and screenplay, Emma Stone’s performance and the movie’s musicality. The film has its cinematic release on December 9th and will be a huge contender in this year’s awards.
Moonlight
‘Moonlight’ is a coming of age drama film that deals with LGBTQ and racial issues with great care and sincerity. The film follows a black boy through three stages of his life who’s struggling with his identity and coming out as gay whilst living in a small minded Miami community. The film has had incredible reviews on the review site metacritic which combines reviews to get an average rating of the film. ‘Moonlight’ currently stands at an incredible 99/100, making it one of the best rated films ever on the site.
Hacksaw Ridge
‘Hacksaw Ridge’ see’s the return of Mel Gibson to the director role telling the incredible true story of a man’s faith in the one of the worst times, World War 2. The film itself stars Andrew Garfield (in his best role to date), Teresa Palmer and Vince Vaughn. The film is about the true story of young army medic Desmond T Doss who refused to pick up any weapon in World War 2 and yet still was able to save 75 of his comrades lives during the horrific Battle of Okinawa. The film itself, Gibson and Garfield are hot contenders to win big at this year’s Oscar ceremony after it’s world premiere at the Venice Film Festival garnered it a 10 minute standing ovation from the crowd.
Hidden Figures
‘Hidden Figures‘ see’s three of entertainment’s finest ladies Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monáetake on pivotal roles that shaped U.S history. The film tells the story of the female African-American mathematician’s Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson who helped enable the U.S to become one of the first countries in the world to travel in space. ‘Hidden Figures’ is a huge dark horse in this year’s Oscar battle, with particular focus on Henson’s performance as the lead (hopefully a well deserved Oscar is coming her way this year).
