There aren’t many shows that take me by surprise. More than half are predictable. The whole point of watching a television show is to escape your reality. That’s why I watch a lot of shows, trust me. I love getting transported to another world. That is why ‘Black Mirror’ is totally worth checking out. Thank you Netflix.
You’ve probably heard everyone raging about how good ‘Black Mirror’ is and for a good reason. It’s totally insane. Each episode has a completely different story with an entirely different cast. I have never watched a show that’s tested my limits as a viewer before. I’ve literally been on the edge of my seat just watching to see what happens next.
It’s a show that really makes you think about what the future could potentially become. And it’s quite genuinely terrifying. Take the episode ‘Nosedive’, for example. Imagine living in a world where everybody can rate your popularity out of 5 on their smartphones. The twist? You can only do certain tasks if your rating is high enough. Need a new house? Want to skip the queue at the supermarket? Sorry, you must have a rating of 4.5 or higher. Scary right? Because I could actually see technology taking over and changing the world like that.
One of the main reasons why I love ‘Black Mirror’ is because it makes you think. It has the power to change your perspective on things you never thought about before. So many possible pathways for our future and all as equally as terrifying as each other.
How an implant behind your ear that records everything you do, see or hear? Then you can replay those memories over and over again. Too bad if you thought about lying. That won’t work. Still not convinced? How about a gaming technology that probes your brain for information to try and scare you? We’re probably not far off it.
This show has gotten so popular since it’s been added to Netflix. I want to take a moment to shout out the actors/actresses from each episode. You’ve all done an exceptional job making me believe your stories. I feel like I’m right there with you. You all deserve an Emmy award. Brilliant. And to the creators of this show, well done. You’ve raised the bar for most mind-boggling show. Everyone else needs to step up their game.
If you haven’t checked out ‘Black Mirror’ on Netflix, watch it with an open mind. The possibilities are endless and you may need to take a moment after the first episode. You have been warned.
