Here are all the best perks you’ll get in US stores for being sustainable
Recycling feels a whole lot better when you get a little something-something for it.
Sustainability 🌿 is increasingly important to consumers, and brands are finally starting to hop on the trend. Several in the United States have established initiatives to encourage consumers to recycle their old and unwanted items, and we’ve rounded them all up for you:
1. LUSH’s 5 Pot Program
Although LUSH is a leader in forgoing packaging altogether, for their products that do require a studier container, they encourage recycling. If you return with five clean (don’t make your local LUSH worker scrub out that janky expired lotion) pots from LUSH, they’ll give you a free fresh face mask.
2. H&M Garment Collecting
On the other end of the spectrum, H&M is one of the leaders in fast fashion. Luckily, they’re taking incremental steps to become more sustainable, including a goal of using 100% sustainably-sourced material by 2030. Currently, H&M offers a 15% off coupon for every bag of textiles you donate in-store.
3. & Other Stories Recycling
A combination of what LUSH offers and what H&M offers, & Other Stories boasts both a beauty recycling program and a textiles recycling program. Win-win! Simply return one, or more, of their empty beauty containers to one of our stores, and get a 10% off coupon as a thank-you. You’ll also get 10% off for bringing in a bag of unwanted clothes (of any brand!).
4. Madewell Blue Jeans Go Green
Madewell has made great strides in recent years to be more socially conscious, like partnering with non-profits and opening up their line to plus sizes. They also have one of the best sustainability policies: For every unwanted pair of jeans you donate (from any brand), you’ll receive $20 off your next purchase of Madewell jeans! Perfect if you’ve outgrown an old pair.
5. Levi’s Blue Jeans Go Green
Similarly to Madewell, Levi’s also offers a great deal for recycling jeans. For every donation of a single item of denim (any denim), you’ll earn 20% off a single item. “Denim is a strong, sturdy fabric that’s built to stand the test of wear and tear,” the Levi’s website says. “It also provides a major benefit that can help close the fashion loop: it’s recyclable.”
