Tanya G: This ex-girlband member is making a name for herself
If you were a die-hard fan of N-Dubz, Pussycat Dolls, and JLS, then surely you’ll remember the dirty-pop girl group Fe-Nix and their catchy rendition of Ghost Town DJ’s single ‘My Boo’, as well as the fact that these girls supported these artists on tours. Well, there is one particular member that is making a comeback since the dismantling of the group, and that would be the Hackney native Tanya, who now goes by the name of Tanya G.
Since the early age of 11 years old, Tanya made a place of serenity for herself where she’s able to write down her feelings and experiences and turn them into pending hit singles. Her love for music and dynamic rhythm has even landed her positions in street dance crew Platinum for 5 years before she eventually turned to producing music full-time. Her “anything is possible” attitude assisted her in Fe-Nix days up until now.
After taking a break from the industry, Tanya G has often said that she’s used it as an opportunity to “perfect her craft” and is now looking to release music in a genre that gives her good vibes: garage, as she grew up on the genre and it relates to so many memories of her childhood.
The Indian-Irish triple-threat released her debut solo-single ‘Can’t Feel Your Love’ last year February as a taster of what’s to be expected on her upcoming album and solo career. The single received massive support from BBC 1Xtra’s DJ Target, BBC Asian Network, and many other media outlets internationally. But it’s all about Tanya’s new material.
She is the fresh face behind the urban pop revival of Gloria Gaynor’s worldwide hit single ‘I Will Survive’. Even though Tanya is a new-born to the solo scene, she’s boldly taken on the challenge of not just covering Gloria Gaynor’s powerful vocals, but also adding her own modern twist to the single, with an energetic backing track from the experienced DJ Kataku to the empowering music video visuals.
The music video for the single portrays a young woman going through a situation in her relationship where she’s having a hard time with a guy and then builds the strength to leave him, move on, and survive. The video was directed by Naushervan Shad and Tanya in hopes to encourage women all around the world with this empowering single.
Tanya G is definitely one to look out for in 2017, as she will be collaborating with some garage legends on her upcoming album. She’s already worked with the ‘Do You Mind’ producer Paleface, whose single was incorporated into Drake’s ‘One Dance’, and is also rumoured to have a projects with DJ Sticky and So Solid Crew.
You can listen to ‘I Will Survive’ on Tanya’s Spotify now.
