How I get ready to film my YouTube videos

Being a YouTuber or just someone who likes to upload videos can be frustrating. There are so many things that have to be perfect. And being the perfectionist that I am, it can be a struggle.

If you don’t know, I’m a United By Pop writer by day and YouTuber by night. I try to make a video once every week. Unless of course someone named Niall Horan decides to release his solo single, then I must make a reaction video (yes, at 2am).

I pretty much film reaction videos to music videos or TV shows. Once in a while, I’ll make a rant video about whatever’s bugging me. I don’t hold back. I’ll leave it up to my viewers to decide whether or not I’m funny. I like to think I am. Is it weird that I laugh at my own videos? Probably.

As I mentioned earlier, there are quite a few things that need to be perfect (for me) in order to start filming a YouTube video.

First of all, the lighting has to be on point. I don’t have those fancy cameras that the big YouTubers have. I’m just your average man. I use my iPhone camera. So fancy. So if the lighting isn’t good, my video will be of crap quality. The best rooms in my house are my parent’s bedroom and the lounge. The sun shines right through and oh my god, I look so good.

Secondly, I have to feel good. If I’m having one of those shit days, filming will not happen. I’m sure some of you can relate. But if I’m having a good day, watch out YouTube. Every time I sit in front of the camera, I feel at ease. It’s so easy to talk to people through the camera. And I’m glad other people feel better because of my videos. It makes me happy.

Another thing is I have to be home alone. I don’t know why, but I prefer to film when no one’s in the house. Except for my dog. He sees everything. I feel like I can do genuine reactions when I’m alone without my family judging me for crying over One Direction (seriously, though). The struggle is so real.

The last thing is making sure I don’t wear the same clothes twice in a row. Believe me, it has happened too many times. It isn’t my fault I like to wear the same comfy shirt in winter. No regrets. The amount of times I’ve filmed in my PJs is horrendous, don’t judge.

The main reason I continue to make videos is because it puts a smile on people’s faces. And that’s really the thing that matters.
