The pop star threw us back to her country roots when she returned to the Academy of Country Music Awards stage for the first time in seven years. Taylor had never performed a track from her new album folklore until last night, when she surprised fans with the live debut of ‘Betty’.
Ever since the announcement on September 13 (because of course), fans have been fervently tweeting ‘BETTY IS COMING’ and changing their profile pictures to a photo of ‘country Taylor’ in a cowboy hat. LGBTQA+ Swifties were especially excited for her to sing a love song on live TV using female pronouns, in front of an industry that is typically known to be conservative.
Taylor certainly didn’t disappoint when she took to the Grand Ole Opry stage in the way she does best — just her and an acoustic guitar. The stripped-back rendition showcased her warm vocals and reminded us of what a talented storyteller she has always been.
Like the fashion queen that she is, Taylor did her own hair, makeup and styling and wore the most fabulous sparkly turtleneck that had us wishing it was Christmas already. She finished the look with some tan trousers, classic black heels and her curly hair pulled back in a low bun.
The world loved the performance so much that ‘Taylor’ began trending on Twitter, but what do you think? Let us know how much you enjoyed it @unitedbypop.
