Remi Wolf, who began her music journey on American Idol, has released two EPs that showcase her electric energy and collaborative spirit. Over the past five years, she’s been recognized as a top Queer Pop artist by Billboard, NPR, and GLAAD. Known for her playful, honest, and nostalgic sound, she encourages listeners to embrace authenticity. Her 2021 debut album, Juno, propelled her to fame with quirky lyrics and a dance-the-night-away vibe. This summer, she solidifies her trailblazing status with Big Ideas, reclaiming her place in soul-pop-funk and celebrating passions, fantasies, and values.

The first four tracks—’Cinderella,’ ‘Soup,’ ‘Motorcycle,’ and ‘Toro’—dropped before the album release, sparking excitement for this electric album. These songs showcase her creative freedom, fantastical themes, and genre-bending sound developed since her debut album. Each track is quirky, honest, and brimming with catchy, sometimes unconventional lyrics. On Instagram, she stated, “I wrote these songs about love, lust, anger, fantasies, harsh realities, vices, low lows, and high highs. And I made them with vulnerability, detail, intuition, and love with people I deeply care about. All the big ideas!”

As the album progresses, her lyrics grow more sophisticated and honest, reflecting her journey of self-discovery as a woman in 2024. Despite tackling big ideas, she maintains a sense of playfulness, sarcasm, and fun throughout the album.

The ninth track, “Waves,” is an upbeat, energetic song reminiscent of “Liquor Store” from her debut album, Juno. Its journal-like lyrics showcase her ability to experiment, transitioning from disco-funk pop to a slow acoustic lyrical track, making “Waves” one of her best songs yet. “Now I don’t want to party/ And I don’t really want to work/ Either way I’ll be lonely/ Maybe I am cursed and somewhere in the middle is actually worse so catch me.”

There’s a reason why Remi Wolf is being hailed as the pop star to watch: she ensures her genre-bending songs have something for everyone. While many musicians tend to stick to one genre, limiting their appeal to a specific audience and often missing out on trends, Remi Wolf defies this norm. Her two albums showcase a diverse range of styles, from slow acoustic ballads to upbeat disco tracks and heartfelt sad songs. This variety makes her music perfect for any mood, offering reassurance and validation for listeners’ big ideas and emotions. Listen to Big Ideas here
