Nineteen-year-old rapper and hip-hop artist AK (Austin Kassabian) took the stage at the House of Independents in Asbury Park, New Jersey, on July 20, 2019.
On the hottest day of the summer, AK managed to have fans from all over the country lined up hours before his show in order to be as close to the stage as possible. Although this may not be surprising for those who are familiar with the incredibly popular rapper who rose to fame on YouTube with his captivating covers, it was beyond impressive. The ‘Deja Vu’ rapper totals over a million followers across social platforms and continues to gain attention as time goes on, but nothing brings his impact on the world to life more than seeing his influence in person.
AK’s home state did not disappoint. By the time he got on stage, the intimate venue was packed for an unforgettable performance full of his latest tracks and some recognizable covers. The setlist included some of his most popular streamed songs, such as ‘Like I Got It’ and ‘Ignorance Is Bliss,’ which fans knew every word to. Despite the difficulty of keeping up with AK’s rhythm and remarkably fast rapping, they kept trying anyway and one lucky fan was even pulled up on stage by the rapper himself to perform alongside him. His gratitude for those supporting him was undeniable throughout his performance.
Forget Red Bull. If you’re feeling a bit fatigued, you need to go to one of these shows. The energy was nonstop from the moment AK stepped on stage to the moment he got off. He gave every single ounce of effort and passion he possibly had into his performance. Through his connection with the crowd and the genuine lyrics to his songs, it instantly became clear to everyone in attendance that there was truly nowhere else AK would rather be than on stage doing what he loves most. And if you took away the chart-topping hits, the immense amount of followers, millions of views and everything else he has accomplished during his career thus far, you would still have the same guy that stepped out on stage at the House of Independents. The only word to describe this New Jersey native is genuine.

This show was one to remember. If one thing is clear after watching AK perform, it’s that he’s lightyears ahead of most rappers both his age and older. He knows exactly how to make people feel like they belong and effortlessly connects with a large audience due to his vulnerability both on and off stage. AK’s energy is contagious and his passion for performing is beyond admirable. The ‘Like I Got It’ rapper is not only taking over screens with his viral videos, but he’s now also packing venues and dominating the charts. AK is definitely not an artist you’re going to want to let escape from your radar. This concert portrayed the talent and traits this young rapper has already established and it would be a mistake to forget his name.
