A.C.E brought the heat to the Hoosier state this month with their show in Indianapolis at the Old National Centre on July 11. It’s been four years since the K-pop group toured internationally, and the crowd was more than ready to give them a warm welcome back.
The boy group came out full of energy, and the crowd had no issue keeping up with them. While member Kang Yuchan was out recovering from health issues, the remaining four members (Park Junhee, Lee Donghun, Wow, and Kim Byeongkwan) tore up the stage in his absence.
2024 has brought many K-pop tours through North America already, but A.C.E proved why their performance was one you wouldn’t want to miss.
The members came out swinging with their elaborate performance of “Goblin (Favorite Boys),” accompanied by backup dancers. The first portion of the setlist was high-energy, including bangers “Savage” and “Changer.” Fans were also treated to the English version of their sickeningly-sweet pop track “My Girl.”
Throughout the evening, members took the time to acknowledge and interact with as many fans as they could, showing that their love for Choice (their fandom) is genuine and ever-present. The boys had everyone on their feet dancing to their recent hit “Supernatural,” which sold almost 25,000 digital downloads in the U.S. upon release and has over 50 different remixed versions.
Songs from all eras of the group’s career were chosen for this tour (“Clover,” “Take Me Higher,” “If You Heard,” “Higher,” and “Slow Dive,” just to name a few), giving older fans a chance to hear all their favorites while also showing newer fans the variety they’re capable of.
Later in the evening, the group performed a couple of cover songs chosen by CHOICE themselves. A.C.E seems very attentive and considerate towards their fans, and it’s always heartwarming to see artists make an effort to include their fans when making creative decisions like this. “Cruel Summer” by Taylor Swift and “GODS” by NewJeans gave the crowd an opportunity to sing along with the members to songs everyone knew and wanted to hear.
The boys closed out the evening on an emotional note with the heartfelt ballad “Angel,” the fan-favorite bubbly throwback “Take Me Higher,” and “Story,” which is a sentimental letter to their fans.
The setlist included a wide range of genres, letting the fans enjoy as many sides to the group as possible to make up for their long absence from international touring. The four standing on stage made sure to acknowledge their absent member as well. They instructed the crowd to turn their lightsticks yellow (Yuchan’s designated color) for the group photo they took with the crowd at the end of the show.
“That’s orange. It looks like yellow, but that’s my color,” Byeongkwan playfully scolded a fan as he looked out into the sea of lightsticks.
I didn’t know much about A.C.E before walking into the venue that Thursday night, other than being somewhat familiar with their music. However, I can confidently say they gained at least one new Choice that evening. Their energy was infectious and it was easy to see that everyone on stage was having a blast performing.
The members proved that they were all giving 100% effort whether they were showing off their powerful vocals, keeping up with their intense choreography, or simply having fun with the crowd. Fans seemed to uphold an overwhelmingly positive energy throughout the concert, as well. A.C.E and Choice both worked together to create a show environment that’s carefree and incredibly fun. Their 2024 tour has wrapped up, but there’s still time to become a fan before they return for their next adventure.
