With her plan for pop domination running smoothly, Raye dropped ‘The Line’ today with a music video to accompany.
Speaking about what inspired the tune, Raye said: “Going out clubbing gives you a cold dose of the expectation society has on women. To get into a club you have to kill yourself in heels, drowned in make up with a tight dress, maybe a bit of cleavage will help you out too. Me going as ‘myself’ wearing what I wanted didn’t cut it, you have to fit within the boundaries and expectations put on you. Watching all these casually dressed men waltzing past me in the queue really pissed me off, so I wrote this tune.”
Raye’s ‘The Line’ was co-written by the artist herself and was produced by FRED. The song is dripping in swag and tells the tale of the struggles of club queues on a night out.
The music video follows Raye and her friends as she’s in the queue to get in a club, when drama kicks off as they are denied entry. The party then moves into a different venue where the chaotic vibes of clubbing really take over. From drinking, dancing and general raving, Raye is seen to have the time of her life with her friends and just letting loose like any typical party animal would, proving that a party is about the atmosphere and not the venue.
RAYE’s short-lived career has been pretty impressive so far, featuring on Jonas Blue‘s recent hit ‘By Your Side’ and collaborating with Jax Jones on the smash it ‘You Don’t Know Me’, which peaked at No.3 on the Official UK Singles Chart and has gone Platinum in the UK alone, with over 100 million streams.
The 19-year-old South Londoner has been tipped by the likes of 1Xtra, Vevo, The Sun and MTV, to name a few. As well has two EPs under her belt, she has writing credits on hits of Charli XCX, Snake Hips and Blonde. She’ll also be heading to party it up and perform at V Festival later this Summer. 2017 really could be the year of Raye.
What do you think – could Raye’s ‘The Line’ be a big Summer 2017 jam? It’s definitely got big club vibes which I can see myself jamming to for the entire season.
