This past Sunday, Miley Cyrus gave an amazing performance for 7,500 healthcare workers and others around the world to see for NFL’s TikTok Tailgate. Performing songs from her most recent album Plastic Hearts, Miley put on quite the show as she also brought out special guests Billy Idol and Joan Jett to sing along with her.
So, to celebrate Miley kicking off Super Bowl Sunday with a great concert, I’ve compiled a list of 10 of her best performances from over the years.
Heart Of Glass
Of course, I had to start with this amazing performance from last year’s iHeart Festival. Miley’s cover of Blondie’s ‘Heart Of Glass’ had everyone talking for days. It was surprising because not a lot of people knew she was going to be covering this song but nonetheless, it was a great one and it’s still iconic.
Tiny Desk (Home) Concert
Miley’s concert for NPR’s Tiny Desk series was a memorable one at that. From her songs ‘Prisoner’ and ‘Golden G-String’ this performance was literally out of the box and her cover of Mazzy Star’s ‘Fade Into You’ continued to prove that when it comes to covering songs, Miley is a pro.
Boys Don’t Cry
It’s as if she knows we love hearing covers from her, Miley again gives an amazing performance as she covers The Cure’s ‘Boys Don’t Cry.’ Now, if anyone knows me, they know that my love for The Cure is endless. Miley not only exudes angst in this performance but she also still manages to give the same energy as when you first heard this song for the first time ever.
my future
In the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge, Miley gave another amazing cover this time around with Billie Eilish’s song ‘my future.’ Songs like this one truly showcase Miley’s range and talent. Just like how some of the people who have commented on this video, her voice is like fine wine and that’s a fact.
Wildflowers
Anytime Miley sings with her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, it’s always a treat because I always know it’s going to be stripped back and we get to hear her country roots. This time around it was her tribute cover of ‘Wildflowers’ by the great Tom Petty. This performance was simply sweet and remains one of my favorites.
Tiny Dancer
I’ve got two words for you: Elton John! Miley joined the legend for a performance of ‘Tiny Dancer’ at the 60th Grammy Awards. This one was sweet not only because she had the honor to duet with Elton but that she was enjoying every minute of being up on that stage with him.
The Climb
I think we can all agree that when it comes to this song, it still makes us emotional just as it did the first time we heard it back in 2009. Miley’s song ‘The Climb’ is one that I think will go down as one of the most memorable songs she has ever released and any time she performs it, it’s one filled with hope.
Zombie
Miley’s cover of The Cranberries song ‘Zombie’ had me screaming with joy because I will never forget when I was introduced to this band when I was like six. We all know Miley has an impeccable voice and she captured the power and lightness of the late Dolores O’Riordan and I think she made her proud.
I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow
This song has gone through many covers from many artists but there are only two people who I think give an amazing rendition of ‘I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow’, the first being Sawyer Fredrick’s audition on The Voice and Miley’s cover at George Clooney’s Tribute. It’s just top tier and it’s one you gotta check out!
Jolene
And to finish off this list of Miley’s 10 best performances, I of course had to end it with her amazing cover of Dolly Parton’s song ‘Jolene.’ Every time I hear Miley sing this song, it’s one I can never get tired of. Miley does her godmother proud every time she covers this song and this is my number one favorite.
