Normani is back, and she’s better than ever! The singer released her new song “Wild Side” featuring Cardi B, along with an impeccably choreographed video and stunning looks to boot. “Wild Side” is her first single in two years, and it’s likely to be the first track we hear from her debut album.
We know and love Normani from her days in Fifth Harmony, but she is truly shining as a solo artist. She has previously collaborated with Khalid, Sam Smith, Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, and Ariana Grande. And who could forget when she broke the Internet with her debut single “Motivation”?
“Wild Side” is an infectious R&B song where Normani sings about being more than ready for her love interest to make a move: “Baby, what do you want to do? / Shoot your shot ‘cause I’m bulletproof.” The song samples the beat of Aaliyah’s 1996 song, “One in a Million,” and everything about it feels very classic.
This track marks the first collaboration between Normani and Cardi B, although Normani was featured in the music video for the rapper’s 2020 hit, “WAP”. Cardi adds a verse near the end of the song that cuts right to the chase, and you just have to listen to it.
The music video is packed with a whopping eight outfit changes and jaw-dropping dance routines, choreographed by Sean Bankhead, who also worked on the “Motivation” video. The visuals were resplendent — at one point there were even two Normanis mirroring each other’s dance moves.
Fans have been waiting long enough for Normani’s debut era, and unsurprisingly, it looks like the wait will be worth it. After all, we know that she can serve looks, choreography, and visuals, so it should be an exciting album rollout.
