Ramping up to the release of Spaceman, his first solo album in nearly five years, Nick Jonas is back with another single. “This Is Heaven” was first performed during his double duty stint at ‘Saturday Night Live‘ last week, and the studio version has us feeling all the feels.

Nick was heavily inspired by the events of the past year when creating the record, but this song is ultimately a love letter to his wife, Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
“‘This Is Heaven’ in general basically touches on that feeling of being reunited with your person,” Nick told SiriusXM. Priyanka was filming a movie in Germany for two months last year while he was in L.A. “That distance really settled in, and then when we finally were back together after this time apart I went back in [the studio] and wrote this song.”
“This Is Heaven” is a sultry yet soulful bop with modern ’80s elements. Nick cited Peter Gabriel and The Weeknd as influences; the latter being part of the resurgence of this genre in this decade. The song features a catchy synth-bass beat and an incredible saxophone solo near the end. As the first song of the ‘euphoria’ chapter on the upcoming album, it gives us a taste of what we can expect from his more intimate songs.
Relating it back to the year of isolation we all experienced, Nick says that while the song is personally romantic for him, the broader meaning is the anticipation we all feel for returning to normal life and seeing our loved ones again.
If Nick’s love language is writing songs, then we’re all in for a treat when Spaceman drops on March 12.
