Everyone’s favorite curly-haired, acoustic-guitar-toting, voice-of-an-angel Shawn Mendes is heading out on tour this year. Aptly named, Shawn Mendes The Tour takes Shawn all around the world — the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and South America, just to name a few stops.
It’s never easy to shell out half a paycheck for a concert ticket, but a stellar opener always helps justify your purchase. Shawn Mendes The Tour is made even more fantastic by the addition of these opening acts:
Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney: Dan + Shay
If you’ve turned on your radio any time in the past year, chances are you’ve heard Dan + Shay’s ‘Tequila’ at least twice. The American country duo consisting of Dan Smyers (31) and James Shay Mooney (27) will head down under and open for Shawn at most of Australia dates. They’ve released three albums since 2014, but ‘Tequila’ shot them to global superstardom when it crossed over in the pop space.
Brisbane and Auckland: Ruel
Australia native Ruel (full name: Ruel van Dijk) hails from Sydney and will open up for Shawn in Brisbane, Australia and Auckland, New Zealand. His single ‘Dazed & Confused’ won him the Breakthrough Artist award at 2018 ARIA Music Awards, and now he’s the opening act for one of the biggest touring artists in the world — at only 16 years of age!
United States, United Kingdom, and Europe: Alessia Cara
In our humble opinion, there is no one cooler on this earth right now than Canadian artist Alessia Cara. She first came onto our radar in 2015 with her track ‘Here’, which told the story everyone can relate to about being at a crappy house party and wondering what in the world you’re doing there. She then became the hero we needed when she showed up makeup-free to some of the biggest red carpets.
It’s such a cool thing to not only see the fans who have been here since the very day, which is amazing that they have stayed this long and cared about me all of this time, but it’s also really cool to see all of the new fans coming in and showing their support as if they have been there forever and talking to me as if they have known me for forever.
– Alessia Cara
Now, Grammy award-winning Alessia has a new album out called ‘The Pains of Growing’ (still 100 percent relatable). She’ll join Shawn as the opening act on all of his tour dates across the US, UK, and Europe.
