Victoria Justice may spend most of her time acting these days, but she’s no stranger to the world of pop music. Following her big break starring as the title role on Nickelodeon’s Victorious, she branched out into music with her debut solo single ‘Gold’. Now, seven years later, she’s making a comeback with her first original song since 2013.
As fans will know, it’s been a long journey to get here. Announcing the news on Instagram, Victoria revealed that she made a promise to finally release music this year. “My hope was to complete a full musical project and have an album or EP to release, but of course 2020 has not exactly turned out as many of us planned. And instead of overthinking all of this, I just thought. F#%! it. I’m going to just put it out there.”
And there’s a special reason why Victoria wanted to release this particular song – because it’s message is more important than ever now. ‘Treat Myself’, a soft pop bop, tackles the subject of how we can be our own worst critic and have negative self-talk.
“I know that this year has been so hard for so many of us. We’ve been forced to spend more alone time than ever with ourselves. Which can on some days be a good thing, and other days not so good. That voice in our heads can tear us down, make us doubt ourselves & flat out lie to us. I wanted you guys to know that you’re not alone. I hope you connect with this song in some way and I hope it can also empower you. It comes from the heart and I’m so excited to finally share something with you all!”
A bop that makes us wanna dance and empowers us at the same time? That’s something we can get behind.
