NCT’s Taeyong is in need of a ‘Love Theory’ and wants to learn more about love in his latest single.
For ‘Love Theory’, Taeyong teamed up with South Korean rapper Wonstein (원슈타인) and released the track via SM Entertainment’s SM [STATION] on April 14. The cheerful love song blends pop and hip-hop and combines a bouncy flap sound and percussion rhythm, adding fun to the listening experience.
In the lyrics, Taeyong and Wonstein sing about exploring love and its complexity from the point of view of someone who has never experienced love; the songs opens the song by declaring the inexperience with love:“Don’t know what I’m doing / I have no clue / I wanna be your Alexandros / I need a love dictionary / I need a love theory / I need you, I need you” and how he feels when interacting with his love interest,“Can you please not talk to me? / ‘Cause when you do, I go blank (Uh-uh) / Mind shuts down, can’t do a thing”.
Taeyong and Wonstein wrote and composed ‘Love Theory’ alongside producer and songwriter Zayson, who has recently composed NCT DREAM’s ‘Never Goodbye’ from their second album Glitch Mode.
The song is paired with a colourful and flamboyant music video that unfolds the story of Taeyong falling in love – with a girl resembling the Sun – and learning love from love coach Wonstein.
‘Love Theory’ comes 3 weeks after the release of Taeyong’s feature on Suran’s single ‘Diamonds’ – from the EP FLYIN Part 1; ‘Love Theory’ is the second solo track from Taeyong in 2022 – on March 15 Taeyong released the performance video of the unreleased track ‘LONELY’ (featuring Suran) on his brand new YouTube Channel “TY TRACK”, opened on March 14.
Taeyong debuted as a member of NCT in April 2016 with the sub-unit NCT U on the track ‘The 7th Sense’ – on which he is credited as a lyricist. He later debuted as the leader of NCT’s sub-unit NCT 127 with the single ‘Fire Truck’ – also here he is credited as a lyricist – in July 2016; he made his third debut as a member of SM Entertainment supergroup SuperM in October 2019. Taeyong is a prolific artist with over 50 songs credited under his name. In addition to his activity with NCT and SuperM, Taeyong launched his very own SoundCloud account on March 15, and in one year, he has amassed over 30 million streams.
Wonstein debuted in 2014 and is one of the initial members of the label Beautiful Noise. Wonstein is most known for his appearance on Show Me The Money 9 as well as popular South Korean variety shows, such as How Do You Play? (also known by the title Hangout With Yoo), where he is part of M.O.M, a project group with Ji Suk Jin, KCM, and Parc Jae Jung.
Wonstein has been praised for his rapping and his singing, which has a distinctive husky and sentimental tone. He has recently released his first soundtrack for the Korean Drama Twenty Five Twenty One and has featured on some of the most popular K-R&B and K-HipHop tracks, including LeeHi’s ‘H.S.K.T.’ and EPIK HIGH’s ‘Super Rare’.
‘Love Theory’ by Taeyong featuring Wonstein has been released on all major streaming platforms.
