Your new favorite alt-pop artist just released her newest single. Rising star Dela Kay’s new single “The One”, co-written with her friend and producer Stefano Pigliapoco, grapples with the pain of trying to make a relationship work while realizing it’s time to let go. The track takes on a 2000s pop-rock feel reminiscent of Avril Lavigne, with a hard-hitting sound and lyrics that paint a picture filled with conflicting emotions. “The One” marks the artist’s first release since her debut EP Falling Into Place, which came out in July.
Dela draws inspiration from alternative artists like Paramore, Maggie Lindemann, The Maine, and Avril Lavigne. Her alt-rock influence combined with her Nashville roots create a solid pop-rock track. Gritty guitar and a punchy drum beat drive home the emotional rollercoaster, accompanying lyrics that describe a love that couldn’t be saved despite all the effort put towards it. The final chorus begins as a stripped-down acoustic version, as if she’s bringing herself back down to earth and making peace with the decision to do what’s best and move on.
