Vocalist and NCT member Jaehyun has finally begun his new era as a solo artist with the release of his singles “Roses” and “Dandelion”. These two tracks are a sneak peek at his upcoming album J – The 1st Album, releasing on August 26. Both songs were co-written by the singer, giving him the ability to personalize his solo work. Jaehyun has been an active member of NCT since their initial debut in 2016, working as a permanent member of NCT 127 and 1/3 of the subunit NCT DoJaeJung.
“Roses” is a heart-wrenching R&B track, detailing the pain of missing someone who moved on. Jaehyun’s smooth voice and emotional delivery make this track a breakup playlist essential. In contrast, “Dandelion” has a much brighter feeling. Sticking to the theme of R&B, this love song has a more upbeat instrumental and sickeningly sweet lyrics. The warmth and lightheartedness in Jaehyun’s singing feels like a way to soothe the pain after he breaks your heart with the first track.
Fans all over the globe have been anticipating Jaehyun’s debut since before it was even announced. Some NCT members have begun starting their individual music careers, and this particular solo has been on fans’ wishlist for years. The singer released one-off singles like “Forever Only” and “Horizon” in the past, building up excitement for his eventual solo debut, but this album feels like it will be exactly what fans have been hoping for. Jaehyun fits the genre of R&B beautifully, and his solo music feels so uniquely his. This debut feels both personal and incredibly polished, and it’s impossible to listen to just once.
