“Creating this album has been therapy for me,” said the rapper in a statement. “I’ve learned to let go of trying to control people’s perception of who I am, what I can do, and where I will be. I’ve realized the only opinion of me that really matters is my own.”
The name of the album was first revealed through a Marvel-inspired trailer on social media. The album art and tracklist are yet to be revealed, but we can expect recent singles “Industry Baby” and “Sun Goes Down” to be part of the mix. The title track, “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)”, has spent 21 weeks so far on the Billboard charts.
News of the 22-year-old’s very first album has been a long time coming ever since the release of “Old Town Road” and the remix featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, which spent 19 weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019. The good news is that we won’t have to wait much longer; Montero is set to be released on Sept. 17.
