‘Last Train Home’ seems to be a juxtaposition of lush chording and breezy cadences while singing about an anguished relationship – “If you wanna use me, then you gotta use me ’til I’m gone”.
During the pandemic, John Mayer has joined – and enjoyed – TikTok. On the platform, over the months, he shared his music experiments with his 1.2 million followers. Speaking with the WSJ, Mayer revealed that he spent the pandemic experimenting online and looking for comfort. When he wrote the songs for the upcoming album “Sob Rock,” he asked himself, ‘What music makes me feel like everything’s going to be OK?’. “And it’s the music I listened to growing up in the ‘80s. There’s a security-blanket aspect about that sound that reminds me of a safer time.” In a nutshell, Sob Rock is a record “made to bring comfort.”
As part of the campaign, the website sobrock.net was revealed on May 29th in a tweet from Mayer himself, alongside the Sob Rock Twitter emoji.
