James Arthur is back with another emotional song to tug at our heartstrings. This time, he’s singing to someone special with his new ballad ‘Emily’. The new single is dedicated to the future daughter he hopes he’ll have one day — and he’s even picked out the name already.

Speaking to Official Charts, James revealed, “[The song] arose from conversations about having kids. Would I even be a good dad? What if they read about all the shit I’ve been through? It doesn’t matter because ultimately I’m the guy who’s going to be there for you all your life.”

The heartfelt lyrics see him forget his past and sing directly to ‘Emily’, imagining how his life and priorities will change once he has a child. “Do you know you inspire all my melodies? ‘Cause you make me a better man than I’ll ever be (…) Because of you, Emily.

Fans are understandably impressed with his incredible songwriting skills and praised his ability to create such a relatable and sweet song, despite never having experienced parenthood personally.

“Nah @JamesArthur23 new song #Emily literally made me cry the first time listening to it. The man is a genius” one fan tweeted, which James replied to with a heart emoji.

Emily’ will feature on James’ fourth album, It’ll All Make Sense in The End, arriving on 5th November and including his latest singles ‘September‘ and ‘Avalanche’.

James is also going on tour in 2022, with dates across the UK in March before heading to North America in April and May. Tickets are still available and can be purchased here.
