For the record, Japanese band Arashi snagged the highest spot on the list with their release “5X20 All the BEST!! 1999-2019,” a compilation featuring all of their most beloved singles. But what makes us clap our hands in excitement and joy is to see Taylor Swift’s “Lover” at the second spot and then BTS making history again as their mini album “Map of the Soul: Persona” lands at #3 making BTS the first Korean artists to be on IFPI’s Best Selling Album Worldwide.
According to IFPI, BTS’s music received critical acclaim for its “confident, genre-spanning sound.” BTS’s April 2019 mini album “Map of the Soul: Persona” has sold 2.5 million global units.
Last year, BTS ranked at No. 2 and No. 3 on the IFPI’s Global Album Chart with “Love Yourself: Answer” and “Love Yourself: Tear,” respectively. In addition, it was recently announced that BTS took No. 7 on the IFPI’s list of best-selling artists worldwide for 2019.
