While in the middle of the Australian leg of his worldwide tour, Harry Styles took the time last night to attend the ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) Music Awards in Sydney. He not only performed his current single ‘Kiwi’ but also took home the fan-voted award for Best International Artist.
While on stage to accept his award, Harry used his acceptance speech to not only thank Australia, his fans, and his label, but also to slip in a little political message:
Hello! Thank you. Every time I’ve ever been in Australia for the last several years, everyone here has been so wonderful to me, so thank you so much for having me back. And congratulations on your recent political decision. I obviously wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the fans who voted, so obviously thank you. And thank you to my label, Sony Australia, and Dennis — thank you for having me, and I love you all, thank you so much.
He was, of course, referring to the country-wide vote that just took place in Australia where 61% of its residents voted in favor of same-sex marriage.
Harry continues his tour with a sold-out performance at Australia’s Forum Theatre in Melbourne on November 30.
Thank you to everyone who voted for me at the ARIAs tonight. What a wonderfully warm welcome back to Australia. I love you all. H
