It was announced this past week after months of rumours and speculation that Lady Gaga will be the half-time performer at the 2017 Super Bowl in Houston, Texas. I couldn’t be happier about Gaga as half-time performer as rumours circulating of people like Bruce Springsteen headlining the show were making me feel a bit woozy. After last year’s ‘headline’ show from Coldplay (Beyoncé), there’s a lot that Gaga has to live up to. However, if she performs these 5 songs I’m sure this will be one incredible show.
1. ‘Bad Romance’
‘Bad Romance’ is arguably Lady Gaga’s biggest and best known hit (with what personally I believe to be one of the best music videos ever for a pop song). If Gaga opens the show with this song and huge choreography, a killer costume, and pristine vocals, I will be floored. Kicking of the show with a bang and a song that is globally known is the best possible way to open the show.
2. ‘Perfect Illusion’
With Gaga’s 5th album ‘Joanne’ being released this month and the Super Bowl being in February, it’s a great idea to perform one or two songs off of the album to promote it. This will give the album a second huge push after the October release and open the album to a huge consumer group that might not have purchased it prior to the performance. It’s also a great chance for Gaga to establish her new ‘image/era’ and give a glimpse of what a ‘Joanne’ tour may look like (maybe even a great idea to announce the tour at the Super Bowl *cough cough* Beyoncé)
3. ‘Born This Way’
A message that is so important for this time in society (and also a really great live spectacle), ‘Born This Way’ will enable Gaga to give a brief message to over 100 million viewers that being different is okay.
4. ‘Telephone’ (with Beyoncé)
Now this, this would be a moment. Gaga and Bey have never ever performed this song together live and what a perfect show it could be. Gaga inviting her special guest Bey, a Houston native, to the stage to show every other pop performer just how to do a live performance.
5. ‘Just Dance’
Just Dance was the song that introduced Gaga to the world and set the 2008 music scene on fire. She was someone who was different to every artist out at that moment, a real popstar. Following it up with hit after hit, tour after tour, this song kicked off the brand that is Lady Gaga. What a fitting end to a celebration of Gaga and what she has accomplished in her short career.
