The alt-pop singer-songwriter L Devine gives a taste of what her upcoming new project NEAR LIFE EXPERIENCE: PART 1 will sound like with the release of the new single ‘PRIORITIES’.
In the song, L Devine candidly talks about a breaking point in a relationship, depicted in the lyrics: “When I see the time of my life I see you in the centre,” and later “You put a drink with your friends twice a week before you put me.”
About the track, L Devine says: “I had the title ‘Priorities’ in mind for a while. I just wanted to get my frustrations in a relationship out, as I was so maddened that this person wasn’t putting me first, like I was with them. Over time, the song’s meaning has changed for me. Now it makes me think of the journey I’ve been on with myself since I wrote it. I’ve realised all the things I list in the song that this person is prioritising over me, are things I should be doing for myself. I was so fixated on putting my whole self-worth onto this person when really, I just needed to stop and look after myself.”
‘PRIORITIES’ works as a double awakening, first on a relationship that it’s not fulfilling and then on the relationship that the singer has with herself, bringing her on an introspective journey.
Being one of the most influential voices in the UK pop scene, in her music L Devine has explored the experiences of her generation and topics like LGBTQ+ life, female sex positivity and the impact of social media. All this is portrayed in the project NEAR LIFE EXPERIENCE: PART 1. L Devine dives into self-evaluation, personal mental health, and her identity in relationships. The first part of the project will be released on July 30.
L Devine was ahead of the curve in 2020 with her virtual shows when lockdown first hit as her URL Tour reached over a million people via socials. She will revisit that concept for a second season of the URL Tour in August to play new material from NEAR LIFE EXPERIENCE: PART 1 and to preview material from …PART 2.
L Devine is set to return to touring in September and October for a major UK headline tour, which includes her biggest show to date at Heaven.
