Having already seen him in Manchester back in October, imagine my surprise (and slight annoyance) when I found out he was coming to Cardiff. Turns out, I needn’t have travelled 6 hours to Manchester after all. But who cares? I’m not complaining that I’m going to get a double dose of Bieber fever!
With recent tour announcements from the likes of Coldplay and Robbie Williams, it looks like artists are finally including Wales in their tours which is fantastic. So I want to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to Justin (and his promoters) for acknowledging Cardiff and that Wales actually exists. This is the first time he has ever performed in Wales and I cannot wait to witness this momentous occasion.
For the European leg of Justin’s tour this year, it was Liverpudlian band MiC LOWRY that supported him. Although they’re not particularly well-known, it looks as though Justin has chosen someone who’s known globally for his Cardiff gig. I’m surprised he has revealed who it’s going to be so far in advance but here’s who the Cardiff crowd will have to look forward to –
Halsey – Who is she?
Ashley Nicolette Frangipane aka Halsey is a 22-year-old singer-songwriter from New Jersey. She decided to use Halsey as her name as it’s an anagram of Ashley and the name of a street in Brooklyn where she spent a lot of time as a teen.
How she rose to fame
After being discovered on YouTube and Soundcloud, she was signed to the record label Astralwerks in 2014. She later went to release her debut album ‘Badlands’ in 2015 – (psst you can download it here). Since then, her career has gone from strength to strength. So much so, she sold out a show at Madison Square Gardens within a few weeks.
Where have I heard her singing before?
Beliebers will have heard her featuring on Justin’s track ‘The Feeling’ (epic tune). You’ll have heard her also featuring on The Chainsmoker’s single for ‘Closer’.
What I’m hoping to see in Cardiff
With her second album rumoured to be released in 2017, I’m hoping we’ll get to hear some sneaky previews of what’s to come. Not only that, but it would be awesome for both Halsey and Justin to sing ‘The Feeling’ live. The only other time they’ve sang it together was on the Today Show back last year. I’ve seen him sing the song in October with Halsey projected on the screens but an actual duet performed would be awesome!
