With their hit song ‘Touch’ dominating TikTok and their journey in the Netflix documentary Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE creating buzz, KATSEYE is making a sensational debut as a global girl group. Sophia, Manon, Lara, Yoonchae, Megan, and Daniela are quickly taking over people their hearts. The group, a collaboration between Geffen Records and K-pop powerhouse HYBE, is making a global impact in their own unique way. But who exactly is KATSEYE?

 

Rewinding to June 2021, Geffen Records and HYBE announced a global search for a new girl group, open to applicants from all over the world. It became clear that HYBE wants to reach out to the American market by creating a girl group through the K-pop training system. Moving forward, the survival show: The Debut: Dream Academy premiered, featuring 20 girls competing in three missions to earn a spot in the group. Through fan voting, the final members were selected, leading to the formation of KATSEYE.

What sets this six-member group apart is the diversity of its members. Sophia is from the Philippines, Manon from Switzerland, Daniela and Megan from the United States, while Lara, also from the U.S, has Indian roots. Yoonchae completes the group, representing South Korea. This blend of different ethnicities gives the group a unique and global appeal for fans worldwide.

KATSEYE made their debut in June with the single ‘Debut,’ followed by their first EP, SIS (Soft is Strong). In the lead-up to their EP release, a Netflix documentary titled Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE, premiered. The documentary shows the journey of the six members as trainees and how the formation of the group got created behind-the-scenes.
