Multi-talent elijah woods opens up about his career during his first time in Europe
The artist played his first-ever solo show at BST Hyde Park!
The multi-platinum pop artist, producer and singer-songwriter elijah woods (seriously, what can he not do?) made his European stage debut at the last day of BST Hyde Park 2024. The artist performed for the first time in the country at the Rainbow Stage where he played an amazing set with a mix of covers and his own original songs. Before going on stage, we spoke with him about playing at the festival, music and his big vision for the future.
Hi Elijah, first of all; Thank you so much for your time with us. How is it for you to play on BST Hyde Park today?
I’m really excited because it’s my first European show ever as a solo artist. It’s really cool, it’s such an iconic festival with a great line-up. Plus the weather is amazing today, which is rare in the UK haha, so I’m happy to be here.
Your new song ‘2 thousand 10’ came out earlier this week. What is the song about?
The song is nostalgic to me. It’s about an easier time, being a kid. We had no mortgage or bills to pay, a car to take care off.. just whatever that thing is, it’s what the song is about. 2010 was a fun and easy year for me, so it’s a throwback to that.
You write and produce your songs yourself which is crazy to me! I was wondering where do you keep finding your inspiration and how do you stay motivated?
I like to have the control of it, I like to see how my ideas turn out into something, that’s how I started my journey as a producer. It comes from everywhere, just life experience, and the most important thing to me is on how I experience things as a human being and not as an artist. Playing those festivals is amazing but the touring life is crazy and you get to see amazing things, so I try to experience that much as possible as a human. I got recently married as well, so just experiences like that.
Aaah congratulations on your marriage! How did you get into music then?
Thank you! – My dad taught me to learn guitar at a young age, but I started with singing only like six years ago. I always liked DJ’ing, producing and so on. So I taught myself all of that. I decided to create a solo song with my voice on it and that did really well, the world kinda said: ‘keep doing this’ so I do! It’s really cool and I enjoy it so much.
You came so far already too. On which things are you proud of so far?
I think every time when it’s something like this, playing a festival, is a moment I’m proud of. I come from a small town in Canada with only 6000 people, so to come to London to sing is pretty cool. We just finished an Asia tour… and the crowd we’re hearing right now for KIRE is amazing, it’s so cool. It’s so fun, I love it. That’s just the thing for me, people waiting outside for my shows, only so they can hear me singing my songs is amazing to me.
You’re really on the rise right now, and like I mentioned, you came so far already. Is there something you would say to your younger self and other young artists?
I think.. don’t worry all about the noise, keep going on your own path. It’s really easy in music to do something that somebody else wants to do too. I don’t know, I’m not really good in giving advice or something like that haha. But I would just say, stay human, don’t lose yourself and do what you do already… just do it!
You achieved a lot of things already, got different platinum and gold records on your name and different nominations. What is your big vision for the next 5 years?
I think the goal for myself is always just selling a 1000 tickets in a random city in the middle of nowhere. Touring in Asia was so interesting to me, because that’s where I also realised that it was already kinda happening. The next chapter is for me to provide more insight to who I am in my music, be more conscious about my audience, that’s my goal. And in the next 5 years it will be… winning a GRAMMY, that’s the dream!
A huge thank you to Elijah for his time with us. If you want to stay up-to-date about the artist his journey, follow him right here on his Instagram page. We hope to see him winning a GRAMMY soon!
