Harry Styles, owner of the best tour merch on the planet, opened his first solo tour at The Masonic in San Francisco, California last night. The tour includes 30 stops at intimate, small-scale venues this year before moving on to larger arenas in 2018.
In One Direction, Harry had a well-known tradition of interacting with rainbow pride flags thrown on stage, preaching that love is love, and openly embracing all members of the band’s audience.
Despite never truly clarifying his own sexuality (“I don’t feel like it’s something I’ve ever felt like I have to explain about myself,” he told The Sun in an interview earlier this year), Harry’s also been known to wear rainbow bracelets and pins and drink out of rainbow mugs in One Direction music videos.
Knowing they’d be loved and accepted at a Harry Styles gig, proud fans brought a rainbow flag with them to The Masonic to chuck up on stage in hopes that Harry would pick it up—and he didn’t disappoint.
Wearing a stunning custom Gucci velvet rib floral suit, Harry not only picked up the flag but draped it over his mic stand for a large portion of the show.
It’s obvious that Harry is continuing his One Direction-era mission of making his concerts a safe space for all, even emblazoning t-shirts, notebooks, and sweatshirt sleeves with the catchphrase “Treat People With Kindness.”
