If you thought 2017 was the year of Harry Styles, 2018 is going to knock your floral suits off. Harry’s already scheduled an enormous extension of his tour from March through July, he’s up for Best Newcomer at the UK’s National Film Awards, and he somehow managed to squeeze in time to pen a song for a motion picture soundtrack.
Harry Styles joined Jack Antonoff (who’s had a hand in practically every pop song you’ve loved in the past few years) and American singer-songwriter Ilsey Juber to write ‘Alfie’s Song (Not So Typical Love Song)’ for the upcoming ‘Love, Simon’ movie. It’s performed by Bleachers (aka, Jack Antonoff).
In a tweet, Antonoff said, “This film means a great deal to me and am honored to have worked on it.” He revealed that the rest of the soundtrack will include music from artists such as Troye Sivan, Amy Shark, Khalid, Normani, and Mø.
‘Love, Simon’ hits theaters mid March and is based on the book ‘Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda’ by Becky Albertalli. It tells the story of Simon, a closeted gay teen who falls in love with a classmate online without learning his identity. The movie stars big names like Jennifer Garner and Josh Duhamel, along with up-and-comers such as Jennifer Langford (’13 Reasons Why’) and Nick Robinson (‘The Kings of Summer’).
The lyrics to ‘Alfie’s Song (Not So Typical Love Song)’ are:
Fake young when we met
Everything seemed alright
Like children sing on the sidewalk
Cut straight through moonlight
How I loved those days we didn’t get out of bed
Left your taste in my mouth, your strange voice in my head
Oh, I wanna hear it again
Cause back then we were caught in a love song
So loud, oh yeah
No not so typical love song
Cause it hurt us again and again
So sang that I really need you
So bad, oh yeah
No not so typical love song
Cause it hurt us again and again
Hey yayayayaya yayayayaya yayayayayay
Hey lalalalala
Ok, look out
We’d leave the city and chase bullet holes that’s actually starlight
In those rare moments you and I were brilliant, we were gonna be alright
But god I loved those days we couldn’t get out of bed
Left your taste in my mouth, all your words in my head
And now I wanna hear it again
Cause back then we were caught in a love song
So loud, oh yeah
No not so typical love song
Cause it hurt us again and again
So sang that I really need you
So bad, oh yeah
No not so typical love song
Cause it hurt us again and again, woo
Shalalalalalala
Again and again
Shalalalalalala lalalala lalala
Shalalalalalala
So bad, oh yeah
Shalalalalalala lala 1, 2, 3, 4
I wanna be alright
I wanna be alright
I wanna be alright with my baby tonight
Say I wanna be alright
I wanna be alright
I wanna be alright with my baby tonight, oh yeah
So sang that I really need you
So bad, oh yeah
No not so typical love song
Cause it hurt us again and again
