SUGA is, for many different reasons, my bias in BTS. I dived deep into their world while my own was upside down and very very blurry to me. It was easy to lose myself to the voices in my head that weren’t kind or comforting at all. Then, as words of comfort came SUGA.
SUGA, who is always kind with his words while talking to his fans. Who isn’t scared of showing his shadows even when it’s scary to share them with the world. Who feels like a safe place to rest in. So I wanted to share words said by him that are pure comfort for me and many ARMYs out there.
When a fan told him in a livestream “I don’t have a dream” he answered: “I’m sure you will discover something later. Don’t worry too much about it. Not everyone has to have a dream.” and that stuck with me because I too was feeling like a dreamless person.
In another livestream he told his audience “To overcome a slump some people make it sound like you have to do something special. But that’s not true. You just have to keep going. Don’t be sad you’re not improving. You will have improved before you realize it.” – and that became something I could achieve even on days I was at my lowest.
In an interview SUGA said “The reason why people get discouraged is because they can’t see the future. It’ll be ok, if they see the light and go along that way, but they can’t even see that light so they fall into despair and can’t progress. So I hope my music can comfort those who listen to it and walk out of misery.” – I hope he knows that his music does exactly what he wants it to do.
This is one of my favorite things he’s ever said: “Everyone in the world is lonely and everyone is sad, and if we know that everyone is suffering and lonely, I hope we can create an environment where we can ask for help and say things are hard when they’re hard, and say that we miss someone when we miss them” – and that’s something to carry with you at all times.
And lastly, one that he wishes for and definitely delivers to all of us: “So that you will, no matter what, lean on me and rest sometimes” – as I said before SUGA feels like a safe place where you can be yourself and feel understood.
So on his special day we thank him for his words of comfort that warm our hearts when we need them the most.
Happy birthday, SUGA! Hoping you’ll have a lovely day as lovely as you.
