Billie Eilish has been declared one of pop music’s biggest prodigies. At merely 17-years-old, she released her debut album ‘When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’ — a culmination of dark-pop perfection. Billie credits some of her greatest hits to her older brother, Finneas O’Connell (aka FINNEAS), and the pair collaborate on the majority of her songs.
FINNEAS has been taking on a musical career of his own and just recently released a sickeningly-sweet new track titled ‘Angel’. It’s a declaration of love that delves into the simple pleasures of lifelong infatuation.
“I wrote ‘Angel’ backstage on tour with my sister back in November. I made myself a cup of coffee and sat down at a piano and wrote the whole thing in an hour and played it for the first time that night… Love has always been the most important thing to me and the thing by which my life is guided,” says the singer.
There’s a sense of wonder that FINNEAS conveys throughout the record like he’s seeing love for the first time. It feels comparable to a young child witnessing the ways of the outside world on their own. He talked about love candidly with Zane Lowe on Beats 1, saying, “Falling in love with someone and feeling so in awe of them that you wonder if they’re even real is what I wanted to say with this one.”
The track is an ode to the artist’s girlfriend Claudia Sulewski. He posted a special dedication to her on his official Instagram writing, “To Claudia for being the best thing that’s ever happened to me without whom this song and this image would not exist anyway.”
FINNEAS has currently been on tour with his younger sister and will be taking his own show on the road soon; he’s set to perform at Summerfest, Diplo’s Mad Decent Block Party Festival, and Austin City Limits Music Festival. With his recent timeless ballad and epic collaborations alongside Billie, FINNEAS is in store for an exciting summer.
