At the age of 14, Dua Lipa began uploading covers of herself singing tracks by her favourite artists on YouTube. Fast forward to now, and she’s releasing tracks of her own. The first time I heard of her was last year when she released her awesome single, ‘Hotter Than Hell’. She had in fact been around quite a while before then. She released her first single back in 2015 which was entitled, ‘New Love’. Since then, she has released great songs such as ‘Blow Your Mind’ and ‘Thinking ‘Bout You’. Now, just in time to make our Summer playlist, she has a brand new single featuring Miguel entitled ‘Lost In Your Light’.
The new track will be included on Dua’s self-titled debut album which is due out on June 2nd, the same date as the pair will be performing the new track on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge. I think we all know quite a bit about Dua Lipa by now. I must admit that when I saw that the track featured ‘Miguel’, I wasn’t so familiar with who he was. Here’s all you need to know about him.
Who is Miguel?
Miguel, is an American singer, songwriter, actor and record producer from Los Angeles (who like Dua Lipa) began his musical career at a young age – 13 to be exact! He released his debut album 10 years ago entitled ‘All I Want Is You’ in 2007. Since then, he released another 2 albums with his most recent ‘Wildheart’ (2015) which hit #1 on the Billboard R&B Album chart upon its release, also taking the #2 spot on the Billboard 200 Album chart.
‘Coffee’ was one of the tracks on the album which was nominated for Best R&B Song at the 2016 Grammy Awards. Since 2011, Miguel has been nominated for 10 Grammy Awards, only 1 of which he has won for the track ‘Adorn’ which won the Grammy for ‘Best R&B Song’ back in 2013.
Which tracks has Miguel featured on in the past?
Since 2011, he’s featured on 14 tracks (which includes this latest offering from Dua Lipa). The first track he featured on was ‘Lotus Flower Bomb’, a track by Wale. Since then, he has featured alongside artists such as Mariah Carey, The Chemical Brothers, Ludacris and ASAP Rocky to name a few.
