Twelve days after dropping their duet ‘What Other People Say’, Demi Lovato and Sam Fischer have pleased fans by releasing the single’s music video.
The emotive video features both singers in a train carriage (remember when we wouldn’t think twice about going on public transport?) and highlights the song’s message of two people being alone together. It was also the first time the pair officially met each other in person!
Revealing the meaning behind the song, Demi explained “This song is a reflection on what it’s like to lose who you truly are in an effort to please other people and society. It’s why I wanted to make this song with Sam – ultimately it’s about two humans coming together to connect and find solutions to their problems.”
“‘What Other People Say’ is a confession, realising how far away you can get from who you are in an effort to be liked. It’s about the pressures of society and how getting caught up with the wrong things can change you,” Sam added.
Surprisingly, the collaboration almost could’ve ended up looking very differently – the song was originally intended to be for another artist, but Demi heard it and connected with it so deeply that she decided to use it to tell her personal story.
The track is Demi’s first release since she teamed up with Marshmello for ‘OK Not To Be OK’ for World Suicide Prevention Day back in September. 2021 is set to be a huge year for Lovatics as Demi’s not only expected to drop her seventh studio album, but also has a new documentary ‘Dancing with The Devil’ coming in March.
