The collab between Demi Lovato and G-Eazy that we’ve all been waiting for is finally here! Rumours began to swirl about the pair working together when they were reportedly spotted filming a music video back in June. Demi then confirmed the speculation with an Instagram post, teasing “Big things coming… no literally swipe left and see how tall this mf is @g_eazy”.
Flash forward to today and their new single ‘Breakdown’ is out into the world alongside a powerful music video. We first heard a snippet of the song when it featured in a trailer for Netflix’s reality series Titletown High, and it’s even better now we’ve heard the entire track.
‘Breakdown’ sees Demi and G-Eazy reveal the dark side of fame as they confront their demons and talk about “becoming somebody I can’t recognise.” The song begins and ends with Demi singing “I got big plans, but none of them feel like mine / And I miss days where I used to feel like me.”
The lyrics address drugs, alcohol and the pressure of being in the public eye , which is reflected in the music video. Real-life negative headlines about the pair flash on the television screen, referencing events such as Demi’s near-fatal overdose and G-Eazy’s drug conviction.
‘Breakdown’ may be the first collaboration between the two artists, but here’s to hoping it won’t be the last. The track is from G-Eazy’s upcoming album These Things Happen Too, which is expected to be released next Friday 24th September 2021.
