With 2016 coming to a close and the many great (and not so great) musical moments of this year soon becoming a distant memory, 2017 beckons us to let some other artists take a hold of the industry (here’s looking at you Drake). Whether they’re brand new artists, songwriters turned performers or even artists who haven’t had the exposure I believe they should have, these next few artists you read about should definitely be on the top of your playlists!
CL
CL is a korean singer/rapper/dancer that has huge success in her home country with thousands of sales, ticket sales and merchandise. This is through her highly successful (just disbanded *sigh) girl group 2NE1. Now going solo in North America, CL is signed to Scooter Braun, well known for establishing acts such as Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande.. so a big deal really. CL has recently released her first full length english language single titled ‘Lifted’ yet it’s not had a huge impact on the charts. Why is that? It’s an incredible song with high energy, a catchy chorus and an incredible performer to match. Definitely check out CL here and watch the video for her single ‘Lifted’ below.
Tayla Parx
Tayla Parx may be a name you may not really know yet.. you should. Tayla has written some incredible songs for some incredible people including Jojo, Chris Brown, Alicia Keys and Jennifer Lopez. You may also recognise her as Little Inez from the 2007 film Hairspray yet all of these accomplishments don’t showcase her at her best. She’s a star. Tayla herself is a performer/artist that’s released music and is about to kick off her solo career. Tayla has released an incredible song called ‘Bump That’ is club ready and showcases the direction she could take with her music. An exciting direction (also her vocals.. yes). Kehlani started her descent to stardom way before this year yet this year has been the catalyst to send her career sky high. Kehlani from the Bay Area has garnered critical and commercial acclaim from her mixtapes to her singles to her performances to the way she converses with her fans. Kehlani is real, vulnerable, fierce, sexual, timid. She’s a young woman with an old soul, a fierce performer with powerful vocals. Her debut album ‘SweetSexySavage’ is set to be released on January 27th and just today Kehlani has released a brand new song titled ‘Advice’ that she premiered on Zayn Lowe’s radio show.
