On Wednesday 22nd February, the 37th BRIT awards takes place at the O2 Arena in London. It looks like it’s going to be yet another awesome ceremony, with amazing nominated acts and some epic live performances. It has been confirmed that Little Mix, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, and Katy Perry will be amongst some of the live performances.
Emma Willis and Dermot O’Leary will be hosting this years show after Michael Bublé had to pull out of the show following his son Noah’s Cancer diagnosis. We already know that Robbie Williams is the winner for BRIT icon following in the steps of previous winners David Bowie and Elton John. Rag’n’Bone Man has also won the BRIT for ‘Critcs’ Choice’, but who do you think will win in the other categories? Here are some of my predictions
British Single
2016? More like Z016! Zayn gave us Directioners mixed feelings – sadness that he left the band but excitement that he would return with his solo career. Since the release of his debut album ‘Mind Of Mine’, he has been killing it. His recent collabs have been pretty sick too. So for me, this award goes to Zayn for ‘Pillowtalk’.
Other nominees in this category:
Alan Walker – Faded
Calum Scott – Dancing On My Own
Calvin Harris feat. Rihanna – This Is What You Came For
Clean Bandit feat. Sean Paul & Anne-Marie – Rockabye
James Arthur – Say You Won’t Let Go
Jonas Blue feat. Dakota – Fast Car
Little Mix – Shout Out To My Ex
Tinie Tempah feat. Zara Larsson – Girls Like
British Album Of The Year
‘Black Star’ is one of the albums that I listed in my top 3 of 2016. Not only as a personal choice but I think I will speak for many people who will say how amazing this certified platinum album is.
Other nominees in this category:
The 1975 – I Like It When You Sleep For You Are Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It
Kano – Made In The Manor
Michael Kiwanuka – Love & Hate
Skepta – Konnichiwa
British Female Solo Artist
I can’t believe Adele isn’t nominated in this category, but there you go. For me, Emeli Sandé has got this in the bag. Her comeback in 2016 with single ‘Hurt’ showed us that she’s come back bigger, better and stronger than before.
Other nominees in this category:
Anohni
Ellie Goulding
Lianne La Havas
Nao
British Male Solo Artist
Speaking of comebacks, another epic comeback of 2016 came from this guy – Mr Craig David. Although he’s not ever won a BRIT award, he won ‘Best Male’ at the MOBOS last year. Pretty sure he 2017 will be his year. I’m really looking forward to seeing him on tour next month too. C’mon Craig!
Other nominees in this category:
David Bowie
Kano
Michael Kiwanuka
Skepta
British Artist Video Of The Year
As much as I would love One Direction to win this one, I think Adele‘s going to win it. Out of all the award categories, this is the only one that Adele is nominated for. After her recent scoop at the Grammy’s, I predict that she can win this award too. Let’s face it, Adele wins practically everything she gets nominated for and rightfully so. So this award I think will go for her ‘Send My Love To Your New Lover’ video. It’s one of my favourite songs from her ‘25‘ album too.
Other nominees in this category:
Calvin Harris feat. Rihanna – This Is What You Came For
Clean Bandit feat. Sean Paul & Anne-Marie – Rockabye
Coldplay – Hymn For The Weekend
James Arthur – Say You Won’t Let Go
Jonas Blue feat. Dakota – Fast Car
Little Mix feat. Sean Paul – Hair
One Direction – History
Tinie Tempah feat. Zara Larsson – Girls Like
Zayn Malik – Pillowtalk
British Breakthrough Act
This is a close one with some really good artists. I think it’s going to be between Rag’n’Bone Man and Anne-Marie, but then again Stormzy has had a good year too. Tough choice.
Other nominees in this category:
Anne-Marie
Blossoms
Skepta
Stormzy
British Group
This is the first time the girls have been nominated for ‘British Group’ at the BRITS, and I think this year might be their year. After their recent album ‘Glory Days‘ became the fastest selling album since one of the most iconic girl group The Spice Girls, they have been slaying all over the place. Here’s hoping they’ll win this category. I don’t see why they won’t!
Other nominees in this category:
The 1975
Bastille
Biffy Clyro
Radiohead
International Male Solo Artist
Just look at him! He is fucking brilliant. Another artist I’m looking forward to seeing live this year. He is my fave in this category but I think it’ll be a close call between Bruno and Drake.
Other nominees in this category:
Drake
Leonard Cohen
The Weeknd
International Female Solo Artist
I don’t think I really need to explain why. I instantly thought of her name before I even saw the nominees!
Other nominees in this category:
Christine and the Queens
Rihanna
Solange
International Group
Twenty One Pilots won Top Rock Artist at last year’s Billboard Music Awards, Favourite Pop/Rock Band/Duo/Group at the AMAs and Best Pop Duo /Group Performance at the Grammy’s this year. I’m pretty confident that they can add this BRIT to their recent awards won.
Other nominees in this category:
A Tribe Called Quest
Drake & Future
Kings of Leon
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
