How to Pull Off the Mob Wife Aesthetic
A little animal print, chunky jewelry, and hairspray is all you need.
All my 2010’s leopard print and pleather pieces gathering dust in my closet have been vibrating with excitement since the “mob wife aesthetic” hit TikTok. Driven primarily by stylish women in New Jersey, we’re looking expensive — and making sure everyone knows it — in direct opposition of the “clean girl” and “quiet luxury” looks of 2023.
While I wouldn’t recommend changing your whole closet to fit a trend, as things on TikTok move notoriously fast, mixing in a few trendy pieces is okay as long as you’re having a good time with it. These picks below won’t have you feeling like you’re wearing a costumer, either. And if you’re a Millennial like me, I bet you still have a few things circa 2012 hanging about that fit this theme.
If you’re looking to just tip your toe in the water, start with an all-black base and layer from there. A few neutral pieces (yes, animal print is a neutral here) punch it up. Stack on big jewelry, scarves, and sunglasses. Pair that with big hair.

Nothing elevates a power walk quite like a long coat. And though it may seem trendy to go with furs, a belted trench or puffer can have the same effect if fur isn’t quite your style.
