Why I love and hate Christmas time
It’s almost that time of year again. Man, it goes so quickly. I feel like we should celebrate Christmas every second year. You all agree? Also, my poor bank account. It’s going to be broke soon. Everything is so expensive these days. I just want to cry. But, ’tis the season. We should all get into the spirit. Even me. In Australia. It’ll be summer. So hot. Help.
I have a love/hate relationship when it comes to Christmas. Normally, I’m all excited and the spirit is so alive. However, there are a few things that really annoy me. And I’m sure you’d feel the same.
Christmas carols. Need I say more? As soon as I hear them playing at my work, oh god help me. Maybe it’s just me but I’m not a huge fan of the carols. If I’m drunk and singing it, totally different story. Retail stores just need to learn to tone it down a little. Which happens to bring me to my next point.
Public service announcement: retail stores need to not start bringing out Christmas stuff until literally the last week of November. I can’t stand stores that have decorations and whatnot in September. NO THANKS. I don’t want to think about anything Christmas related until December 1st. This is a thing that needs to happen, please. I beg you.
But I’m not going to be a sourpuss this entire article. There are so many things I love about Christmas too. As soon as it hits December 1st, ‘All I Want For Christmas’ by Mariah Carey makes its way to the top of my playlist. Truth. The Santa hats come out at work and everyone seems to be in such a happier mood. Well, almost everybody.
The stores are packed with people doing their last-minute shopping and things are on sale and it’s crazy. That’s kind of why I love it so much. Oh and the food. How can I forget the food? Coming from an Italian family, three-course meals are everything. You stuff your face at lunch, digest and do it all over again for dinner. And oh the desserts are beautiful. Plus, the leftovers are endless. That’s lunch for the next week sorted.
And how can we ignore the iconic Jingle Bell Rock dance from ‘Mean Girls’? Expect that to be plastered all over Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr. I am ready.
However, Christmas is all about family. Yes, they can be annoying at times but that’s what makes them so great. Enjoy the festivities and eat as much food as you can. You deserve it.
