Why dieting in January is so difficult
January 2017 is almost over, and for me, it’s been a tough month on my waist line. As much as I’ve wanted to do the ‘new year new me’ bollocks that everyone bangs on about, it hasn’t happened. Not when it comes to food anyway. Yes, I’ve started going back to the gym – so that’s something! But then eating a creme egg or opening a can of Kopparburg does defeat the point, I know.
Dieting is always difficult, I don’t care what anyone says. “Oh, you should try this diet, you can eat SO much and still lose weight”. Bullshit. This is how my January has gone so far:
Week 1
I’m so glad that Christmas is over and done with. I’ve eaten so much food and drank so much alcohol that I am bursting at the seams. I am ready to take on this year and lose all the pounds I’ve put on. Oh wait, I forgot about these chocolates and those biscuits. I also have 3/4 of a bottle of vodka left and a cocktail mix set I’ve yet to try out. It would be rude not to finish and try this out, wouldn’t it? After all, I don’t want to come across as being ungrateful for these presents. I’m back at the gym twice a week, so that’s a good thing.
Week 2
Ok, so the gym routine is going well, AND I’m still having the occasional chocolate. I’ve weighed myself, and I’ve lost two pounds. This could work. What would work even better would be if I cut out all the crap altogether, but that can’t happen. Not yet anyway. It doesn’t help that the shops have started selling Creme Eggs again. Seriously, you have no idea how much of a weakness I have for them. So stupidly, I bought some. I did feel proud that I bought the pack of five instead of 12 though. Woop, go me! What would have been even better would have been if I hadn’t bought any at all, but I’d be lying if I said that happened.
Week 3
I went on holiday, again. This time I went to Gran Canaria. Thankfully it wasn’t all inclusive like my holiday to Boa Vista was. So because of this, I needed to buy food and drink throughout the day. The Euro rate is so poor now, everything was mega expensive – but that didn’t stop me from munching on a bag of Lays crisps (they’re the best by the way). Of course I didn’t choose healthy options. I was on holidays FFS. Who diets when they’re on holiday? The rep told me there was a gym at the hotel. Not sure if that was a hint. Needless to say I didn’t use part of my 15kg baggage allowance to pack my gym kit.
Week 4
As predicted, January dieting hasn’t gone well. I’ve put on three pounds. My fault, can’t blame anyone else. Now that I’ve eaten all the leftover Christmas stuff (and the Creme Eggs I bought), there’s no need to buy any more junk. Let’s hope I can get focused for February! So I have now (albeit the end of January) made a start on my diet and here’s photographic proof: paprika chicken with sweet potato, peppers and onions with lemon infused water. It was actually really tasty, and that’s not a lie.
Has anyone else found January difficult to diet?
